‘For those of you that know me well, know that I am a bit obsessed around customer service.
This morning it has been revealed that WH Smith will be disappearing from our high streets after many years.
No surprises here.
From a shoppers perspective I have been in there twice recently, and the store looked tired and the service I received was if I am being polite questionable.
I started my career with WH Smith in 1990 and back then they were a formidable retailer and great employer, who trained their teams very well.
I used to sell high value pens and word processors (remember them).
I loved it.
The better the service I delivered the more I sold.
The more I sold the more commission I earned in WH Smith Vouchers.
All my family got birthday and Xmas gifts paid by the vouchers I earned, combined with my 25% discount I was on a winner.
I loved delivering great service for the commission benefits, but more than that it gave me a nice feeling inside.
That experience at Smiths lit the flame for my love of all things service, which I have brought into my logistics career.
