A post from Paul Woods, Managing Director –
Hi Folks,
I would most grateful if you could share this post far and wide, comment and like, in fact anything that will give it reach.
Tonight at 9pm on Channel 4 there is a must watch documentary about going on flights as a wheelchair user.
It is called “Sophie Morgans fight to fly”
I do not know Sophie personally, but I know she does so much to try and highlight the challenges faced by the disabled community.
Most people when they go on annual leave worry about the following:
Whether they have packed everything
Whether there will be any delays
Whether because of delays they will miss connections
Whether their hotel will be as described online, in the brochure or on trip advisor.
Wheelchair users such as myself have all the above anxieties but……..
These pale into insignificance compares to the fear of flying with a wheelchair.
Is my wheelchair going to be damaged in the hold?
Is my wheelchair going to be lost?
What happens if I need the loo (I am fortunate I can walk but after a few hours sat in the same position my legs seize up)?
You see for us wheelchair users losing access to “our chair” is like losing access to our legs all over again.
Whenever we fly it is cross your fingers and hope for the best, rather than actually relaxing and looking forward to our well earned break.
Anyway, see for yourself tonight and please help us make change, and make flying pleasurable for all.
